NEW PHONE, WHO DIS?

Hi there,

Before we dive in, allow me to introduce myself (as any courteous host would) - I'm Henri Strauss, and welcome to my blog!

I enjoy vocalizing my thoughts, so if you're interested and open to listening, feel free to settle in here. Occasionally, amid the chatter, I'll also sprinkle in a little personal update as well. So, starting today, I'll be giving you a clearer picture of the double entendre that is - The guy behind the screen.

Raised by my loving grandmother and extremely hardworking parents, I grappled with self-acceptance within my conservative Afrikaans Christian community. The turning point arrived during a fateful performance of "Equus" in 2014, sparking a newfound passion for the stage. With a swift change of majors from BSc to Drama and Film, I embarked on a journey that led me full circle to starring in a remake of the very play that ignited my passion. However, despite graduating with honors in 2018, I navigated performing only for "exposure", teaching drama to little kids, and bartending at a gay club, while facing the realities of a "struggling artist" narrative for the next few years.

Then came the unforeseen plot twist: COVID. Amidst this new extra layer of chaos, I somehow managed to find moments of triumph – from gracing the pages of Vogue Italia to snagging theater awards and delving into entrepreneurial ventures. Fast forward to 2024, and I've landed my first major acting role on kykNET's 'Diepe Waters,' portraying a character that challenges the same traditional Afrikaans norms I was so scared of.

From the shy boy in Hartbeespoort to the unapologetically queer individual I am today - I don't know what's going to happen next, but I'm eagerly awaiting the next chapter.
